Most cameras on the market today are lighter, simpler, and more portable than ever before. Pocket cameras are quicker and easier to use than 35 mm cameras. These simple cameras share the advantages of low price
and great simplicity for the user. 35 mm cameras offer more control over the picture quality and more versatility in film types and accessories. But whatever kind of camera you have, from the smallest pocket model to an SLR with special lenses, you can make your pictures better by understanding the nature of your equipment and your subject.

The first chapter of this book, "The Camera," covers the four main types of cameras most amateur photographers have today: the small 110 and 126 pocket cameras, the 35mm compact camera and the 35mm single lens reflex camera (SLR) Whichever camera you have, your pictures will be better if you know about the features or accessories available to you and about the basics of camera operation. This chapter looks at typical cameras and leads you through handling procedures. The Photographer's Checklist at the end of the chapter is a handy compendium of all the steps you need to remember before you can snap the shutter on a great picture.

The second chapter, "Getting the Best Shots," covers how to set up the best picture composition using natural light, night shots, flash, action shots, and effective use of black and white or color film. Sometimes the right point of view or an eye for the details of composing a picture can make the difference between a forgettable shot and a photo you'll always treasure. The practical tips in this chapter will help you turn memorable moments into equally memorable pictures.

The third chapter, "How to Handle the Subject," takes a look at the most popular picture-taking situations and subjects. You'll learn the best ways of handling children's birthday parties, travel shots, portraits, candid shots, sports, and more. Knowing these techniques for capturing the fleeting moment will help you make the most of those shots that can only be saved through the magic of the camera. The last section of the book will show you how to choose your best prints, and how to spot and correct your picture-taking flaws. Display accessories and more advanced equipment are also introduced.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Caroline R. Zimmermann launched her career in a New York magazine publishing Firm. She left publishing to join an advertising agency as on account executive. It was here that she first gained a love of photography. In 1971, Ms. Zimmermann founded her own New York based advertising agency, and over the years has achieved recognition as a marketing ex-
pert, reporter, author, lecturer, and photographer. She has studied photography under Rezny and Harold Feinstein.
