Stephen Marshall and William Sunners were the first contest writers in the United States to produce books on the subject of winning in sweepstakes.

William Sunners is well qualified to write this book about the long-hidden secrets of many major sweepstakes winners in America. He has been associated with contests and prizes since he was a student at Stuyvesant High School in New York City. He won his first prize in 1917 and many others of all kinds followed. Since 1936, while teaching in the secondary schools of New

1952; HOW TO WRITE PRIZE-WINNING JINGLES, 1953; HOW TO WRITE PRIZE-WINNING STATEMENTS, 1954; GHOSTWRITER'S HANDBOOK,1955; ENCYCLOPEDIA OF WINNING ENTRIES, 1956; HOW AND WHERE TO FIND THE FACTS, 1962; PUZZLE SOLVER'S ENCYCLOPEDIA, 1974; and HOW TO MAKE AND SELL ORIGINAL CROSSWORDS AMP OTHER PUZZLES, 1981 which was selected by the editors of the prestigious WRITER'S DIGEST magazine to be sold to its members in its WRITER'S BOOK CLUB. His work, in the opinion of these
editors who had reviewed three other books on the same subject,  was superior. It had been chosen over a volume penned by the editor of a crossword department of a newspaper. He had been a District Superintendent in the same school sys tem where I had toiled for thirty-two years as a lowly teacher
of Graphic Arts (printing). In the open-to-all competing world of puzzles and personal achievement, my book was proclaimed superior.

To create SUCCESSFUL SWEEPSTAKES SECRETS, Sunners has borrowed
a technique that Mr. Stephen Marshall (the famous contests winner) adopted a quarter of a century ago. Then, he contacted many winners of tricky crossword puzzles and asked those persons to explain their prize-winning methods. In 1957, Mr. Marshall revealed those successful techniques of forty crossword winners. Their replies appeared in a book simply titled, MY SYSTEM FOR WINNING A TRICKY CROSSWORD TOP PRIZE. That approach has now been successfully adopted by William Sunners in this book. He hopefully approached more than one hundred sweepstakes winners and posed a series of information-yielding questions.

The one hundred written replies (some very lengthy) have been condensed so that you, the reader, will not have to pore over one hundred different questionnaires. The nub of every answer has been studied and analyzed and presented concisely in this book so the information can be grasped quickly and easily. Before presenting those answers, he touch briefly upon the legality of sweepstakes in the United States, on the 3 methods of selecting the winners, and some suggestions that he personally consider to be important to you if you want to win.
