A SENSE OF PROPORTION

Are you suspicious about life and what it has in store for you? Yes? I, too, have my suspicions about life when I was younger. Fortunately, my suspicions about life and all its vagaries and mysteries faded away as I grow in faith. My faith continues to grow, change, develop and evolve as I make better sense of my experiences and knowledge.

What are the things that make sense to you in this world? Many things bewilder people. Many things are thought of as mysteries. Some people even think that there are no mysteries. Religion was a mystery until some people rationalized it. Then, all hell broke loose. Historical records show that more millions have suffered or died at the hands of religious people than in any war.

Are there really mysteries in life? Is life a mystery? Science says that there is an explanation for everything. Scientists are fond of rationalizing everything. I suspect they rationalize to hide their lack of real knowledge. Unfortunately, their fondness for rationalizing things is shared by the modern education system. Consequently, schools become places where students are brainwashed to think and act rationally at a tender age by their teachers. A high school education leading to negativity . . . How ironic!

Religion, on the other hand, while admitting that there are mysteries, generally says that it is none of your business since there is a God that handles all that. Of course, every religion gives credit to its own God while slandering those of other religions.

Do all these make any sense to you? Sometimes? Not that I care whether it makes any sense. When you have experienced much of life's vicissitudes, you can live your life in a more relaxed way . . . beyond caring, beyond wear and tear, beyond the daily struggle for survival. 

WHAT'S THE SENSE?

Common sense, nonsense, sense of proportion, cow-sense, and ... I care not. They all mean the same thing if you cannot perceive their intention. That's why I do something scary every day. 

I think it is important to cultivate a sense of humor. There are so many mysteries, so many challenges, so many worlds awaiting you. Along the way, you will come across countless obstacles, meet numerous people who want to hurt you, and offend many life-forms. You will get hurt, injured, scolded, molested, cheated, cursed, plagiarized, betrayed, sick, even raped, robbed, and bewitched. You can survive all these and more if you have a delightful sense of humor. If not, you will become frustrated and end up a nervous wreck or as a psychiatric patient.
